Technology

I just recently complete Digital Literacies II from San Diego County of Education.  I learned the following:

As part of its ongoing strategic plan for supporting the use of technologies in California’s schools, the Technical Statewide Education Technology Service (TechSETS) offers educators and IT professionals alike this seven-week intensive course of professional development designed to improve your digital literacies.

I explored:

  • Digital citizenship and Internet safety
  • The use of Creative Commons license
  • Copyright law and ‘Fair Use’ Clause
  • The use of Web 2.0 tools and social media
  • Ways to apply Google Applications for EDU
  • Using mobile technologies for teaching and learning
  • Techniques for developing non-linear presentations
  • Methods for using Quick Response (QR) codes in teaching and learning
  • The use of digital cameras
  • Developing blogs and websites
  • Producing podcasts

I try to incorporate technology while I tutor.  Students today are use to technology and technology helps create engaged students. I also use my technology skills to help adults use the smart cell phones to their potential.  I also help adults learn how to use the computers and integrate them with their cell phones.

On-line programs I use for tutoring include:

Moby-Max
This is a program that helps with math and language arts from K – 8th grade.  It is adjusted for the new common core.  The questions can also be turned on for audio so students with reading difficulties can continue to learn.

Blendspace
This is a neat program where I can put a view you-tube videos together for the student to review and learn material.  This is what I made for some of my 7th grade math students who were receiving tutoring at my house.  Sometimes students learn the material when it is presently slightly different that their teacher.
